Update Latest version (supports S60 3rd edition until the latest Symbian Belle) is available in Ovi Store (1 USD).
Update: 29 June 2010: UTC and Local time version has been merged. You can download the latest version from here.
Update: 20 November 2007: Certificate has been updated, all of you who get “Certificate Expired” error message can download again.
Update: 13 July 2007: Source code for LogExport is now available (License: GPL v3).
Update: 8 July 2007: A new version thatuses local time (instead of UTC) is available. The default filename is now the current date/month/year. Sorry, it took me a long time for this minor bug fix. Source code will be posted within this week.
I alwasy thought it will be interesting to be able to analyze our call log. By analyzing call log, we can answer questions like: How long is my average call duration?, did I spent most of my money for SMS?, would it be better if I take this plan from the provider X over the others?.
Most provider doesn’t send the bill in digital format, and for those that do send in digital format, we need to parse the data (because they are usually in PDF format), and match the phone numbers with our phone book (because they don’t have our phonebook). It will be nice if we can just pull/export the call register data from our phone to a CSV file. We can then analyze the CSV file using any spreadsheet programs (including the default Spreadsheet on S60 3rd edition).
I wrote a small program, called LogExport, to Export the Call Register data to a CSV file. It only does that thing, no more and no less. You will only find one menu: Export, the analysis task can be done by a spreadsheet. I was actually planning to give analysis options, but after reading so many subscription plans from different providers, there are some many differences which makes it hard to program.
For now this program is just a freeware. After cleaning up the code, I will make this as open source program with GPL License. I haven’t tested this program thoroughly, so it may contain bugs.
Here is the binary file: logexport.SIS.
I am too lazy to create a menu to select whether you want to export in local time or UTC, so I just create this two builds (since it takes me only 3 minutes to create both versions, instead of creating a new menu).
New version (1.2, UTC and Local time has been merged) LogExport 1.2
New version (1.1, local time): LogExport v1.1
New version (1.1, UTC) LogExport (UTC)
Source code: LogExport 1.1 source code
or more

Nice idea man. I just downloaded your util and tried exporting and was unable to do so. The program freezes on the exporting screen at somewhere around 10% of the progress bar. Btw, I’m using the E61
Hi,
I am also using E61, and everything is fine. The export is rather slow sometimes, and looks like freezing. This happens especially if you are exporting your log to Memory Card, on 3rd edition phones, writing many small data to Memory Card is 50x slower compared to writing to phone memory (this is a known bug in the firmware).
Anyway, I should have made better progress screen.
Installation fails, and Phones display says:
“Certificate error. Contact the application supplier.” I have an E61, and have tried both before and after an upgrade of it.
Works great for me!
Hi Yohanes,
I’m new at symbian development and I’m very interested in your logexport application as I am trying to develop my own log exporter as a learning project. Does the log come directly out of the Nokia Call Logs?
Would it be possible to send me your source code so I can see how something like this is implemented?
Cheers!
[…] LogExport is a freeware application for Nokia S60 3rd Edition mobile devices that allows you to export the Call Register log from your mobile phone into a CSV file. You can then open this file into a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel on your desktop computer and analyze the data. […]
Cant install on my nokia e61.. It just says Installation Cancelled.
Hello Yohanes!
I am very excite about LogExport.
This is the tool I’ve been searching for for years now.
I have had lots of trouble with my GSM provider’s bills in the past, and usually had the problem that the phones log shows only entries up to 30 days in the past. So, when the bill arrives, the log of that time is deleted.
You’ve given me the means to control my bills – thank You very, very much!
Gerhard
PS: A technical question: Does LogExport use Symbian APIs to get the log entries or does it parse the logdbu.dat itself?
Suggestion:
Add a feature for the filename to contain the date of the export (yyyy-mm-dd, eg 2007-05-28) or the date range of the exported log entries (yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-TO-yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm, eg 2007-04-29-09-54-TO-2007-05-28-11-43).
The date/time exported is always GMT, right?
Gerhard
This is a killer app! Thanks a lot!
Hi,
This is so great that people with such technical knowledge like you, develop applications and then give it away for free! Thanks so much.
I’m using E61 and really frustrated that it it only keeps a very compressed log for maximum 1 month (compared to 1 year in my old Communicator).
I didn’t install this utility yet, because I’m afraid too many utilities will slowdown my E61.
But I will install it if you could tell me if a new log overwrites a previous one, or appends to it (which I’d prefer).
Thanks again,
To Jean-Marie
The new log is saved in another file. It won’t overwrite previous log, unless you choose to do so.
Hi Admin,
Thanks for your very fast reply.
Installation of your utility over bluetooth was very fast and flawless.
The making of the first log also was very fast. The program asks where to locate the .csv file and allows me to give it a name. Great !
Exportation to my pc also succeeded excellent and fast. I did have to search a little where the file landed on my pc and then found it under my documents/bluetooth/inbox.
Importing in Excel went great too. There are 281 lines.
It’s a real delight to see the phone book names appear besides the telephone number !
So in fact this is a fantastic program. And moreover it’s free ! And if it wasn’t I would even have bought it.
Just one remark : the hours from the log show 2 hours difference with the real internal E61 log. Do you have any idea what causes this difference and how to solve it ?
Meanwhile, thank you very, very much !
To Jean Marie,
There is a bug in the current version of LogExport, I forgot to convert from UTC/GMT to local time. It will be fixed on the next version (hopefully this weekend).
Hi Yohanes,
it is a very nice app. is there a way to insert into the log the sms that i recive and send?
i am using Nokia n73 and like the device very much.
thanks
Eyal
my mistake ……:-)
it shows SMS.
thanks again….
Hi Admin,
is there a way to create a trigger to create the log when i finish a call?
is it posible to create it in the app?
i am very intrested in this application.
thanks
eyal
Hello Yohanes,
> There is a bug in the current version of LogExport,
> I forgot to convert from UTC/GMT to local time. It
> will be fixed on the next version
Ooh, I like it that way.
When traveling (and adjusting to the local time zones) the log could become irritating with localized time entries.
Furthermore, it could even present wrong results because I assume the time zone will be detected when LogExport runs, so call made during a visit in Canada would be showed in European time.
Please consider my previous suggestion for automatic time stamps in the file name …
All the best!
Gerhard
great app. thanks a lot
hey how about 3250 its 3rd ED but is it supported? `cos i`m going to sue T-mobile here in Macedonia (u know what I mean, my lawyer will do that with my facts wich i`ll get from this app)
@harbin
Why don’t You simply try?
Gerhard
Hi, I think your software is wonderful.
Is there any way to import your csv file on the E90 QuickOffice? Otherwise would it be possible to output the file in xls format? Let me know, I really love your logexport. It’s great as minutes counter. There isn’t any on the 3rd edition platform. Regards.
Hi Gianluca,
It is a bit difficult to export the CSV to XLS, but I will look at the possibility. Right now I am using E61 which has built in Sheet application that can open CSV file.
Dear admin, I found another Office software for E90, whose name is OfficeSuite, which imports cvs.
Actually I think it’s better to transfer the cvs file on Excel, where I created a connection to the cvs schema, so I simply select the file and I get the data I need.
Is it difficult to create a kind of analysis option inside the software? Instead of focusing on different plans from many phone providers, could it be possible to select a start date, an end date, and show the sum of out calls, in calls, sent sms and gprs-3g data?
Thanks for your answer. Actually your app could become the best (and only) minutes manager on Nokia 3rd edition.
Thanks for your efforts.
Gianluca
Hi,
very good application.
can u put something like a schedule to export automaticaly the at a fixed time ?
thanks
i just tried, but when the csv file is blank after i export it, so no way to judge hw good or bad the program is.
can it track no. of sms sent from during a period? eg: 15th July to 15th Aug. How about total cost of calls , combining weekdays / weekends, peak / off / peak ( after manual settings done to set the rates ).
How about calculation of data charges? some telcos charged by per kb, others in blocks of 2 or 10, and others only charged XX cents per XX blocks of data, capped to a max sum of $ etc.
After getting data, users still need to sort it outt manually all individual entries? if it is so troublesome ( thou simple ), i don’t think many users will use it.

hi. another suggestion if possible is the date format be improved to mm/dd/yy when it comes out in the CSV file? anyway, thanks a lot for the great program! for you guys having a slow time exporting to csv, export to phone, never to the memory card coz it’s slow as hell. thanks again!
Hi
this is a wonderful software.. for which I am searching for the time I bought my N73 Me..
and this is the only software which saves the log of N73 Me phones(if I am not wrong…)
thank a lot guys..
thank you very much.
does it work for S60 2nd edition phones
I have N3230 / 6600 .
i am no expert in symbian programming.
please can you compile and release it for 2nd edition phones.
thank for a great application .
It doesn’t work with 2nd edition phone. I am planning to make it work for 1st/2nd edition phone, but doesn’t have the time to do it yet.
Hello Admin:
This is a very good use of software, thank you very much!!
There is a problem to ask, because I use Chinese phone, export to the letter (such as names) will be turned into gibberish, I heard that the problem is the format, I would like to ask whether the definition format to Unicode? (Or can choose)
Thanks again! ! !
The program has an interesting side feature. All sent SMSes usually limited by the number defined in Messsaging settings, 100 max. But this software have access to the beginning of every sms sent during the log period. So at least one can recall what was it about. As I see Log itself doesn’t show the message itself in “View details”
Yohanes, Thanks for the software!
Thanks, good software.
BTW: is there any way to get information if a call was received/made during roaming?

A minor suggestion, I have a dark theme when application aware of themes usually use white text for better reading experience. Yohanes, is it possible to to this for directory listing? In my case the text is black and not so well readable.
I have tried to install log export and have the same error as others I saw on this board. I keep getting the message “certificate expired”. Please send me advise to my email. I am in great need of this applicaiton. Thanks in advance.
thanks alot for the nice program but every time i tried to install the program this message come up “Expired Certificate †I have an N73, and have tried both before and after an upgrade of it.
do you have solution for it.

Hi!
Please make it for symbian 8.1. It comms great!
Thx
Ups, my certificate has expired.
Please use your time machine to go back in time and install the software (or just set your phone clock to about june 2007) install the program, and set back the date.
I guess I have to sign all of my applications again.
Hello Yohanes
I am using E51 and have tried installing the latest (and seem to be greatest) Logexport after 20 Nov 2007 in both version. It still gives Certifcate Error…thanks a lot.
BTW, changing the date of PC or/and phone did not work.

Hello Admin
It is so great and helpful…thanks a bunch…is there a way we can read the wholemessage and not just its beginning? Is the change required in Logexport or in the way we import it to excel ?
Thanks a million again…please let us know..
Regards and Cheers !!!
Hello Admin…and all,….it is me again…
I was able to install it…and it is great…there is nothing like it over the web:
1- Can the text fields be increased to download the whole text?
2-I was able to download only about 1000 lines in Excel but not more than the 1000, eventhough I see that there is more than that…..I am using E65 Nokia….can it download more?
Thanks a zillion…Cheers
Hello again Yohanes,
Could you please advise back regarding my last post?
Thanks a lot…..Cheers
Sorry. I solved my problem. I changed “application manager -> settings -> software installation” from “signed only” to “all” and all was done.
Great application.
Thx again
Excellent software incredible !!!! can analyze if my telco is stealing me…
I’ve downloaded the LOCAL TIME version, but I’m in Argentina (GMT -3) , and the data is always shown in GMT, not in local time, NO BIG PROBLEM FOR ME…
Thanks a lot great tool !!!
Hi,
Please make this great program (LogExport) usable under Symbian 2nd Edition,
I know it takes a time for you, but please share a little time for 2nd Edition users.
Thanks in Advance
Hi Yohanes
I must say this is one of the best symbian freeware you can get but there is this time problem with both the UTC and the local time. Both of them are showing UTC time. Well at least on my E61i. Any possible solution to the problem?
Thanks

Try enabling unsigned software installation. See the first step in the URL:

Dear yohanes,
thanks, it works. great application. I only have problems with the time stamps. There is a difference of two hours between the protocol on my mobile and the exported .csv. Any suggestions how to solve this problem. Thank you for your support.

@Tobias
Try the version that uses local time.
Hi Yohanes,
Like Tobias I get the certificate error message, but my N73 is locked to Softbank in Japan which does not allow for unsigned software installation.
Is there another way to extract the raw log that you are aware of?
Thanks,
Martin
@Martin
Sorry, I don’t know any other way to get raw log file. The only way I can think of is you can try to hack your phone using the AppTRK hack to allow you to install any applications.
Hi Yohanes,
Thanks for the reply. I will look into the AppTRK and see what is possible.

Hey J man, I’m trying to get this app installed but when I do it, the screen about if I would like to install your app comes up I clikc the definitely yes button. all of sudden it just goes back to the main screen and no trace of your app is on my phone.
Do you have any idea what I can do?
Great! thanks a lot! Works fine on e71..
hi,
i’ve az e51. i jus downloaded the app. it’s great!
but it downloaded only 1000 items from the logfile.
is it the max entry number in the logfile? in the log settings i can set 30 days to save the logs. maybe it is phone related and not your app.
Ive tried to download software (both versions) onto phone using installer and merely double click, result, phone says file corrupted. Any solutions?
Absolutely Brilliant!
Works great on my N85 and is just what I need to Stick it To The Man! (phone company…)
Cheers, Vovo
Thanks man, thats realy cool and that what i’m looking for.
The only thing i need is a programm or stylesheet to take the exporting informations to a stylish format, because the .csv file looks not so good. please man make something new in look, thanks a lot
This is truely an elegant solution, KILLER AP!
Hi I have checked your application. Its superb. but one thing i have noticed that whenever the no is not from the address book then log does not contain the no
any inputs on this
once again other than this issue ur app is superb
please ignore last bug. my mistake nos are there
Seems like both apps export in UTC time.
Yep, both versions are exporting UTC time.
Great app though nonetheless, exactly what I wanted, well except for the UTC time part
Thanks for writing LogExport, but I think it may not be compatible with the Nokia E71. My firmware is ver 200.21.118. On launching LogExport, the screen says “Export Log to CSV v1.1″. The installation log says ver 1.01(0).
It exports the CSV fine, but when I’ve only just noticed that the times in the CSV are exactly 10 hours earlier than the actual call time. For example, the CSV says “15/05/2009″,”05:22″,”Voice call” which I know occurred at 15:22, ie 3:22pm.
Adding 10hrs in Excel is no problem until I noticed that entries such as: “22/04/2009″,”22:49″,”Voice call” really refer to a call at 8:49am the following day. I’ll have to read up on Excel to make that adjustment…. 😉
The only non-standard thing with my phone is that I have chosen 24hr time format, and “yyyy mm dd” for the date format.
If you want any more info about this, please write. For everyone else, best to manually check a few entries to verify this isn’t happening to you too.
RTFM – my fault for not realising UTC was basically GMT, and I am at GMT+10, so my prob is the same as described for others. Anybody have an easy way to adjust the UTC dates by a given offset????
hi,
i have nokia e71, am gettiing certificate expired error.

Hello Yohanes,
when writing the log is there a possibility to increase the number of chars for exporting text messages from 100 to 160? This way the complete text messages could be exported in the log.
Thanks a lot,
claudio
@claudio
No, the log database only contains part of the text message (not tge complete message)
Yohanes,
thanks for your answer. A few more questions:
1) Could you change the program so that it exports the complete text messages with the log?
2) what variable defines the number of chars for the export function?
3) what program do you use to compile the logexport.sis (maybe I could use your sourcecode and change it by myself but I have no idea what development tools I need, so I only need logexport and will not need the additional msgexport).
Thanks again!
claudio
@claudio
1) No, this program only reads the log database, and the log database doesn’t contain the complete message
2) The limit is from the symbian API
3) I use carbide c++ from forum.nokia.com
– thanks!
best regards
claudio
thanks yohanes

There are some words in the extracted file I want to change from English to Arabic, such as ,Short message,Incoming,Delivered,Voice call,Missed call . How do I do that ?
We need, as well as a full application in Arabic and I am ready to Arabization Just tell me where to find the place of words earlier.

Thank you
@majed
The texts that you mentioned (Short message,Incoming,Delivered,Voice call,Missed call), etc comes from the log database itself (comes from the operating system not from the program).
If you need to change it, you need to have if statement to compare the strings and translate it to Arabic.
What is the path of the file that is read log it?
Is it in the disk Z and what path?
@majed
I don’t know the file path of the log file, I just use the API to read the file.
Well,
Thank you for your response to my written inquiry.

man, i agree. it’s great of you to develop these apps and give them away for free. i respect your technical expertise. it’s really a shame that the companies don’t think of these things themselves. i imagine if they spent a fraction of the money they spend developing their useless apps on guys like you we’d have full versions of these functions readily available.
i have an e72i and it’s telling me “LogExport: Unable to execute file for security reasons”
is there any work around for this?
Subject: Feature Request
Could you please add a feature?
I would like to be able to set a schedule on which the program export the log, appending it to a predefined file.
This is because, it seems the log has either maximum record number of 1000 or 30 days (whichever comes first) to maintain the OS performance.
So I prefer to have a big passive log file on my memory card to preserve the data and leave the OS log file free running the way it is tuned for performance, and don’t be always worried about losing log data if i do not do an export on time.
hi yohannes,
1st of all: FANTASTIC WORK, thank you very much for this program!
just one (for me essential) thing: how can I export more than the last 30 days?
how can I export for example the last year of usage? need it so that I can make a statistic on my own for the usage in one business year.
thank you for answer
kind regards!
on my e72 i’m getting a message “unable to execute file for security reasons”
any workarounds for this?
