Update 20 Nov 2007: Certificate has been updated, now the “Certificate Expired” will not appear for the next 10 years.
IfInfo is a small and simple program I wrote today to view current network interface Information. With this program, I can see the IP address assigned to my Nokia E61, DNS address, and so on.
So why does anyone would like to know this information? With the information, I can verify if the DHCP server on my WiFi router has given my phone a valid IP address. In general, I can check if there is something wrong with my connection, or just to see whether a public access point gives me a public IP or private IP (i.e behind NAT).
I have been waiting for kind of freeware utility to become available (like IpView on my Nokia 7610), but since now one has written yet, I decided to do a quick coding. I wrote this just a few hours ago and haven’t tested much, so you may find bugs. I was going to implement ping functionality, but it turned out that pinging requires special capability, so I’ll just have to skip that for now.
You can download this simple program here: ifinfo.SIS. I will release this an open source program after I clean up the code.
Update: this is the IfInfo source code (released under GPL).

Hi Yohanes!
Thanks for the idea and realization of this programm! Especially since you released it as freeware +sorry+ open source..
Some suggestions you may take into consideration:
* Nicer Layout with an Overview Screen that just shows the Adapter names and maybe a green light if connected through it, a red one if not.
* Clicking the Adapter name would bring up a detailed list with all information about the adapter.
* Personally (yes, i´m German..) i do not understand the “Speed Metric” entry in the list.
* Information about current maximum possible connection speed, used upload and download speeds would be interesting for me, since i often connect to several open WIFI Hotspots and could better select between them then.
Just some inspiration. Besides: Nice app, seems to work fine on E61. Will test a bit more later..
Bless, phanthomas
hello ,
Your app is great and free. It is amazing because your app is a clone from this one but IpConfig(www.mobicrac.com) cost 17$ ! http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&platformId=4&N=7%2034&R=204016
I hope that you release soon the source code
Thanks again for your useful app

Hi, IfInfo would be very useful for me on my new Nokia E65, because I can connect to unsecured networks, but when I try to connect to a WEP secured network at work, it connects (WLAN data sent and received according to “Conn. mgr.”, which only happens with correct WEP key) but I can’t browse – and I can’t tell whether it’s failing at IP address, DNS lookup, or HTTP proxy (all of which the phone supports).
But I cannot install IfInfo on my E65. Nokia PC Suite attemps to install it, and the phone responds as it should (“Install IfInfo? [Yes] [No]”), but then (on “Yes”) the installer on the phone pauses for several seconds, then gives a warning pop-up saying:
“Certificate Error. Contact the application supplier.”
(With MiniOpera.jar, it just installed, fine; with one older SIS it didn’t even get to the yes/no prompt, but said “Instalation of ‘xyz.SIS’ not supported.”; so it’s not the same as either of those…!)
Any ideas and suggestions or other help very gratefully received.
Thanks,
Mike
OK, I got it! “Menu/Installat./App. mgr./Options/Settings/Software installation->All” to allow un-signed apps.
It’s a useful program.
Thanks!
Mike
Hi Yohanes,
I reported here (below) that IfInfo was indicating problems with the network connection on the E65 (for some WLANs). Someone on the site replies that they think IfInfo is not always picking up the correct details for an interface:
http://discussions.nokia.co.uk/discussions/board/message?board.id=connectivity&message.id=6659&view=by_date_ascending&page=2
Any chance of releasing the source? 😉 [OK, I suppose it should not be too hard to duplicate, in theory, but that would be a waste of effort, right…]

Yohanes,
I tried to load the app into my Nokia E62 and about half way through it said it was incompatible. Do you know the “secret” series of keys to see the OS version. I know it *#0000# for OS date and *#06# for serial number. I’m concerned I have an older version of Symbian than 9.1. Do you have a “Best Practices” for someone new to this OS?
Thanks,
Brent B

Have a related question – I am after an S60 3RD edition compatible program to send a single ping at a regular interval.
I am assuming a pseudo-crontab program like http://shop.my-symbian.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=695&jid=B5466X886XBD6XD7X52AC51AEB47BFBB&platformId=4&productType=2&productId=8611§ionId=6685&catalog=20&topSectionId=-1 will allow the ping to be setup as a crontab-style job, say every minute.
Hi,
This program refused to be installed at my E65. The phone said – “Certificate error, contact the application supplier”

I tried it on Nokia E51, for some reason interface EthWlan4 is there twice, first has still the same address 169.254.150.242 (unknown to me), the second one has correct IP address and DNS, but for all interfaces gate and mask are missing (0.0.0.0).

Great app, does anyone know how to find the network Host name on an E90?
I can confirm Ivan’s comment 21. Furthermore, using http://www.nokia.com/betalabs/devicestatus on my E51, I verified that I had a valid gateway and mask, but they were missing in IfInfo.

It’s not working with nokia 5800
It works on my Nokia 5800 Express Music Phone. Only that to scroll on this touch screen phone you have to install the keyboard emulator.
Does it esist a program which also analyzes network traffic, to see wich packets are sent and received from/by the phone? I have a 3rd edition, but I only found ezSniffer for 2nd!
Thank you!
Just what I needed!
