Zip Manager

This is one of the most useful freeware for the 3rd edition. You can save a lot of space using this program, and you can use it as a workaround for some limitations of the 3rd edition phones.
First, this application can be used to send so called “protected files”. Protected files includes MIDI, MP3, Sis, and Jar. First edition phones (S60 v1) can send protected files without problem, Second edition phones (S60 v2) can not send protected files, but can be fooled by renaming the file from the sender side (the receiver can rename back the file), third edition phones can be fooled by Zipping it. Ironically this application than can be used to circumvent the limitation, can be downloaded from Nokia web site.
Second, this application is useful to work around email attachment problem. When you received an email with attachment on it (using built in messaging application), you can open the attachment if it is supported by one of the application on the phone. It is fine when you receive a DOC (Microsoft Word Document), PPT (Powerpoint) or XLS (Excel) file, or any other file for which you have the application, since you can open it, and save it to disk. But when you don’t have the application (e.g: you received a Visio file), you can not open the file, or even save the file.
You cannot pull the file out using bluetooth connection using your computer. If you use the memory card as the message storage, you can pull the card, plug it to card reader, find the file, and copy the file to your disk. If you use the phone memory to store your message, there is nothing you can do. However, if the files were zipped, you can use the zip manager, extract the files, and you can pull out the files using bluetoth to be read on your computer or other devices. So next time, ask your friend to always ZIP your file.
I am working on a program that can pull out attachments from messaging application, it works, but I can not select a file yet (I have to pull everything out to a folder). Meanwhile you can use this nice program which was written by EpocWare. You can download this file from Nokia or the latest non-free version from http://zm.epocware.com.
